Magnet technology

Electromagnets for very high magnetic fields have been manufactured at OSWALD for more than two decades. Calculation and design are either carried out by means of our computer programs or by close collaboration with universities, research institutes and applicators. Water cooled high field magnets from OSWALD operate successfully in experiments for plasma physics (nuclear fusion) in Europe and in the USA. Additional applications are in solid state physics, laser technics as well as medical technics. Recently insertion magnets for NMR tomography have been manufactured with very high precision. The dimensions of electromagnets being developed and manufactured at OSWALD reach from some centimeters up to several meters. Superconducting magnets have been developed, manufactured and tested at OSWALD for ten years. The magnetic fields reach up to 16 T. We offer superconducting magnets for various field strength and field configurations.

The coils consist of a fabric isolated OF-copper hollow conductor winding. The winding is casted in polyester resin keeping the coil’s shape. Current- and cooling channel connectors are located on the outer radius and arranged in a way that the coils can densely be stacked without gap. Pure and decalcified water as coolant is required.
